i'm not actually a hundred percent sure that i spent a month playing video games in 2011, but it's likely that i spent somewhere around that, which, in retrospect, is kind of gross.

i dunno. a month translates to about 730 hours, and i put i think about 140 into Pokemon White, 125 (and seven seconds! i'm so bummed that my save wasn't a round number when i retired my first character. also, i probably put more than that, what with console freezes, a new character, unsaved exploits that i decided to undo, etc.), and a bunch of hours into Borderlands, and i beat Golden Sun: Dark Dawn, Portal 1 and 2, Bioshock, Dragon Age: Origins, PMD2, and i've also played a whole lot of other video games that i don't remember right now.

maybe in 2012 i should actually resolve to play less video games than last year, i don't know. also, how did i even find time to play so much video games? i was in at least one class both semesters of 2011, i went to California for a week, where i didn't play any video games, i limited my video game playing during Lent, and i was working a decent amount the whole year through. and it's not like i missed out on too much sleep. interesting.

also, you may have noticed that this is another one of my 'Dear Margot' comics! that's because this last Saturday, January 21, was the third anniversary of i'm here to see if you can fly with broken wings! hooray!

a couple days ago, some friends and i celebrated the tenth anniversary of my all-time, number one, top most favourite movie ever, The Royal Tenenbaums! so here's the cast of my comic recreating the cover of the dvd.

also, The Royal Tenenbaums is a really male character-heavy movie, so i put Archie the owl as Raleigh St. Claire, even though we haven't seen him in any comics for a long while.

i don't really get how a person could not like Christmas music. i guess maybe if you don't celebrate Christmas? i dunno. i mean, a lot of what i classify as Christmas music is really holiday music or Santa music or winter music or songs that mention or allude to winter or cold weather. i'm really quite lenient when it comes to defining "Christmas music."

okay. the way i'm having to scan these things puts this grey over the whole thing, and because i'm having some computer issues, i don't want to have to bother with getting rid of it, but i'll probably start doing that if i can't find another way to scan.

anyway, i've been playing a lot of The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim lately, and this is (basically) my character. i do a lot of sneaking, and a lot of archery, and also a good deal of smithing. i'm also fairly proficient with one-handed weapons. i am a huge fan of this game, just so you know.

seriously, if you get a refill of your popcorn on your way out at the Reel Theatre here in Pocatello, ID, they'll cover it with plastic wrap so you don't lose any. it's great.

also, until the end of September, the Pocatello Reel Theatre (and possibly other Reel Theatres? i'm not sure) is doing Customer Appreciation Days, so all tickets are only $1.50, and there's great deals on popcorn and sodas. if you're in town, i definitely recommend going and supporting them, seeing good movies, and getting great deals at the cinema.

another Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars comic. i've just about beaten the game now, i've just got to finish getting through the last dungeon and fight Smithy, but i don't want to yet because all my party members are level 29 so i may as well level them up, and i want to try and get all the hidden treasure chests i haven't found yet.

also, as you may have noticed, i used a different inking method for this one. i used my pitt B pen, and i'm not really a fan of how it worked out. i think that pen is for people who work larger than i do; it's hard to get the lines the way i want them since they're too small for the nib. i dunno. i'll have to figure something out.

unfortunately, i was leveling up my characters on Super Mario RPG and i kept on choosing Magic Power for Bowser (because i really like his mutli-target magic attacks) and eventually everyone else was doing more physical attack damage than him, and i was sad. but don't worry, i've got his physical attack up again, it's all good.

sorry for no update yesterday, Blogger was in read-only-mode all day. so, i've posted what would be yesterday's comic today, and i'll have another comic on monday.

i somewhat recently found a copy of Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars for the SNES at a local used video game store, and i was way pumped. it's been one of my top most favourite video games for years, so i was very excited to play though it again. i'm way past Star Hill now. i've got six stars and i'm in Bowser's Keep now. it's pretty great. and seriously, when i got to Star Hill on this playthrough, it was so fantastic- all of the little stars you can look at to read people's wishes are so amazing, i love them all.

if you have a Super Nintendo (or a Wii, since they have it on the virtual console or whatever), i definitely recommend playing it if you can. it's soooooooo great.

majour thanks to Patrick Kennedy for giving me his old computer. it runs my old computer games FABULOUSLY. Myst 3 is beautiful, and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 is totally great. the stupid Venice level on Tomb Raider 2 is still stupid, though. there's way too many guys with guns on that level, it's way tough for me every time i try and play through it. also, those guys on that level with the baseball bats? also, my pen is running out of ink, so i've got to find something new to ink these comics with. i haven't really been the biggest fan of this pen, but it's got the job done, so i'm kind of glad and sad at the same time that i've got to find a new inking tool. i dunno. do you guys have any suggestions?

this is based on a true story. i'm pretty pumped. a guy stole one of the copies of my comic "half-size*" from Main Street Coffee (234 North Main Street in Pocatello, where, if you are interested, you can purchase my comic. i'm pretty sure they still have at least one copy. otherwise, you can just order them from my store). he liked the comic so much, that he subsequently purchased a copy from my store page! awesome! i won't give his name, but seriously, majour thanks! i really appreciate you buying my comics, and honestly, hearing that you stole a copy made me feel way cool!

this is a day late, but this is for Harley's birthday yesterday. he used to always put on theatrics like this when we'd have Burger King's delicious chicken sangwiches in the same room as him. he'd totally freak out unless we gave him some.

also, i really like how this comic turned out, because i feel like it's really animated and cartoony and Stealing Heart Bandit looks great doing those silly things.

more Eelektross/Emolga comics. also, as it turns out, the first Tynamo i caught just HAPPENED to have a jolly nature! so great. it was so helpful, especially since i'm not really a fan of the idea of breeding just for stats and stuff. i make a strong connection with the pokemon i catch, so it would have been pretty hard for me to breed a Tynamo like that.

as such, when i am participating in the forthcoming Grey League (Gray League?) from the awesome Pokemon Podcast: It's Super Effective, i will probably just be using my originally caught Pokemon. seriously- it's a very good podcast, that i definitely think you should listen to if you like Pokemon at all, and they're doing this amazing thing where people are trying out to be Gym Leaders, and "trainers" can battle them online with Pokemon Black or White versions, and when you beat the gym leaders, they'll send you badges! and if you beat all of them, you can challenge the Champion! it seems so great, and they say they'll have prizes for winners and Champions who have long winning streaks. you can learn more at their site- they've got a whole thing of beta rules listed.

as it turns out, i've gone with the Elektross. i've been training her specifically so that she's faster than the average Eelektross, so that's cool. also, i guess at this point she's not an Eelektross, she's just an Eelektrik, but after i level her up some more so she learns some more powers, i'm going to use the thunderstone that i just got on her. i'm debating whether or not i want to wait for her to learn Thrash (which is a pretty cool move) or if i just want to swap one of the other pokemon on my team for an Axew (which i'll evolve into a Haxorus) that i can teach Outrage, because it's pretty much exactly the same move except Axew'd get a STAB from Outrage, and Eelektross wouldn't get that from Thrash, so Outrage on the Axew would be a lot stronger. i dunno. that'd require switching one of my team members, so i'm not sure. we'll find out what happens.

it's kind of fun drawing Elliott with extra hair on his head, he ends up looking pretty silly. also, i really do need a haircut soon, and i almost cut my hair tonite, but i did my taxes instead. i might cut my hair tomorrow, it's hard to tell.

also, i'm sorry, but this is another Watership Down reference. really, you should read the book if you haven't, it's fantastic. i have an extra copy if you want me to lend it to you and you're in the southeast Idaho area. for those of you who don't speak any Lapine, "thlayli" translates roughly to "fur head" or "big wig."

seriously, a couple weeks ago i found a shiny Pidgey while doing my Nuzlocke run on LeafGreen, and it was the most amazing thing i've ever witnessed. also, i had to change my Nuzlocke rules, because i'd already caught a pokemon in the area, but it was the only time ever (other than the storyline shiny Gyarados from Gen 2) that i'd ever seen a shiny. oh man, it's so fantastic. she's bright gold, and she's incredible.

Dear Jimmy,
I'm so glad that you and Stephen Colbert are BFFSMs. So great. If you weren't, he might not have come on your sow to perform absolutely the best live performance of any song ever- Rebecca Black's "Friday" a week ago. That seriously was a highly magical moment, and no other show could ever provide me with entertainment so fantastic as that.

Also, when you had Paul Simon and STOMP! on to sing "Cecilia," it was so amazing! That's so cool that you were able to sing that with them! Fantastic. Man, I seriously love your show, and I wish I could be friends with you.

this (sort of) is my team so far in Pokemon White. shortly after i drew this, Bartleby, my Herdier, evolved into a Stouland (which, as it turns out, i think i regret. hopefully he'll grow on me.) and i think i might switch out Elliott, my Emolga, for a Tynamo (which hopefully i'll be able to EV train for speed, so it won't be so incredibly slow... i've never EV trained anything before, though, so we'll see what happens), because then i won't have as many flying types on my team, and also because Eelektross (which Tynamo evolves into) is way hardcore. also, i'm totally looking forward to when Lyle evolves, because Krookodiles are wicked cool. plus, i named mine after the book Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile.

also, if you're in the southeast Idaho area, you should totally try to find the fantastic Dave McNeill and buy a copy of his brand new minicomic, Thursday Night Crime Fight! it's incredible, and definitely worth the $1.25 that he's charging for it. here's the cover:

it's true, i just finished reading a book (God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater by Kurt Vonnegut, Jr.) and re-reading Watership Down is next on my list. i'll be pretty occupied for the next little while, it's true. the last time i read this book, i ended up writing like three or four comics about it, if i remember correctly.

seriously, i am so excited for the new Pokemon games, i just had to make another comic about it. i drew this last nite, really fast, with the intention of posting it today, and i hadn't planned on posting anymore comics at all until like monday at the earliest.

also, i really did teach my Farfetch'd the move Poison Jab. i've been listening to the awesome Pokemon podcast "It's Super Effective!" lately and they do a featured team of the week, where you can submit your team and they'll rate it, so i've been revamping my team in SoulSilver a lot. it's most way done, but i was wanting to teach my Buizel the move Dive and that requires a totally stupid amount of BP in the Battle Frontier, so i may have to give up on that. hopefully sometime soon i'll be submitting my team to the podcast for them to review, even though i don't really play Pokemon against other people at all, and i think that's really what their ratings are based off of.

i recently finished watching the whole thing of the show Outlaw Star, and it was fantastic (well, episode 23 was completely ridiculous and unnecessary). so, i'm drawing the cast of this comic as the characters from the show. i'll be posting another one of these with some more characters in a few days.

so here's "Hot Ice" Emerson, Chance Hawking, Elliott Starwind, and Clemfina. that last one isn't really my favourite of these name portmanteaus i'm making, but it's alright.
