here's a pretty cool version of Good King Wenceslas as performed by the always wonderful Sufjan Stevens!

and here's the full lyrics to the song, if you're wondering:

Good King Wenceslas looked out
On the feast of Stephen
When the snow lay round about
Deep and crisp and even
Brightly shone the moon that night
Though the frost was cruel
When a poor man came in sight
Gath'ring winter fuel

"Hither, page, and stand by me
If thou know'st it, telling
Yonder peasant, who is he?
Where and what his dwelling?"
"Sire, he lives a good league hence
Underneath the mountain
Right against the forest fence
By Saint Agnes' fountain."

"Bring me flesh and bring me wine
Bring me pine logs hither
Thou and I will see him dine
When we bear him thither."
Page and monarch forth they went
Forth they went together
Through the rude wind's wild lament
And the bitter weather

"Sire, the night is darker now
And the wind blows stronger
Fails my heart, I know not how,
I can go no longer."
"Mark my footsteps, my good page
Tread thou in them boldly
Thou shalt find the winter's rage
Freeze thy blood less coldly."

In his master's steps he trod
Where the snow lay dinted
Heat was in the very sod
Which the Saint had printed
Therefore, Christian men, be sure
Wealth or rank possessing
Ye who now will bless the poor
Shall yourselves find blessing

i'm currently on vacation to visit my extended family in California, so i unfortunately might not be updating the Archive page, and i might not be tweeting or announcing new comic posts.

but here's this one, and i'll have another one on Thursday, as usual!

i don't really get how a person could not like Christmas music. i guess maybe if you don't celebrate Christmas? i dunno. i mean, a lot of what i classify as Christmas music is really holiday music or Santa music or winter music or songs that mention or allude to winter or cold weather. i'm really quite lenient when it comes to defining "Christmas music."

also i wouldn't actually do anything to you if i found ut you don't like Christmas music, i'd probably just be kind of confused.

the last of the That Thing You Do story arc. seriously, if you haven't seen TTYD, i totally recommend it. also Quarantine was pretty good, and if you like foreign movies you might want to watch REC, the Spanish movie that Quarantine was based on. it was good as well.

i broke 300 comics, you guys! so in celebration, i drew Elliott as the 301st Pokemon in the National Pokedex, Delcatty! it's kind of a silly drawing.

just hangin' out, just havin' fun, we're number one!

#300! woo!

Dec 1, 2011

this one goes out to my roommate Tyler, who until recently had not seen that movie. and readers: if you haven't yet seen the movie That Thing You Do, you are really missing out.

also:

this is number 299! almost to three hundred posts!

Nov 25, 2011

i realised as i was writing this comic that saying what Elliott says here in front of your real life friends when they're getting together specifically to spend time with you could be seen as very mean. that is not how i intended it, i just meant that i sometimes have a lot of social anxiety.

true story, i have work all night tonight, from 4 until 11. i'm kind of bummed about it, but the pay is gonna be great, and i'm getting Christmas off, so that's good.

#297

Nov 22, 2011

okay. the way i'm having to scan these things puts this grey over the whole thing, and because i'm having some computer issues, i don't want to have to bother with getting rid of it, but i'll probably start doing that if i can't find another way to scan.

anyway, i've been playing a lot of The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim lately, and this is (basically) my character. i do a lot of sneaking, and a lot of archery, and also a good deal of smithing. i'm also fairly proficient with one-handed weapons. i am a huge fan of this game, just so you know.

#296

Nov 18, 2011

hey! sorry that this comic is a little late, i'm having trouble getting The GIMP to read my scanner. also sorry if this one scanned weird, i had to do it in Preview, which i'm not used to.

also, this one goes out to Matt, who couldn't play TES 3 or 4 because of the graphics, but has (i think) already put more hours into Skyrim than i have at this point.

one more thing: this is totally unrelated to my webcomic, but have you guys heard Good Luck's new album, Without Hesitation? it is literally so good. you can buy it from the itunes, or you can preorder it from No Idea Records, or you can stream it from altpress.com. i definitely recommend this band, they're simply amazing.

Nov 11, 2011

man, i love Christmas so much. nothing's better than a little Christmas spirit.

also, this comic is subtitled, "The Mother, the Mechanic, and the Path," just because of what Dan says in that last frame.

EDIT: i'm having majour scanner issues, so i won't be posting a new comic 11/17. i am terribly sorry that i have missed my usual thursday update, and i'm really sorry about the long wait. i'll post something as soon as i am next able!

seriously, you guys, i am so excited for The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim, it's not even funny. i'm pretty sure that game is gonna eat up like 100 hours of my life.

Halloween costumes 2011!

Clem and Hubble- Karen (formerly Kitty), with a short skirt and a long jacket w/ Cake's trumpet player. Dan- Sherlock Holmes. Elliott- Lucca from Chrono Trigger. Nic- one of the fishmen from A Town Called Panic. Ainsley and Chance- Velma and Shaggy from Scooby-Doo.

#292

Nov 3, 2011

you get awesome points if you can tell what his costume is. also, if you know what it is, it's really easy. it's a pretty distinct costume. my post on (i think) monday will reveal the answer!

#291

Nov 1, 2011

seriously, i feel like Clementine's costume here is possibly the greatest Halloween costume possible. i can't believe i didn't think of it years ago.

Oct 31, 2011

i really like how those drawings of Elliott's Lucca costume turned out. seriously, this idea makes me really want to dress as Lucca for Halloween pretty bad. also, this comic is dedicated to Matt, who dressed up as Velma from Scooby Doo super awesomely this year!

#289

Oct 27, 2011

i'm not actually dressing as Lucca this year, but i have been playing a lot of Chrono Trigger lately, and i recently thought that it'd be cool to dress as Lucca, 'cause she's one of my top favourite video game characters ever.

i feel like even after watching just like 2 episodes of Doctor Who, i was a superfan and super snob. i dunno. it was super quick, and i know hardly anything about the show, really.

#285

Oct 10, 2011

actually, now, i've seen a bunch more episodes with the Tenth Doctor, and the first few episodes with the Ninth Doctor. also, this comic is dedicated to Matt, Miles, Ceci, and anyone else who loves Christopher Eccleston as the Doctor.

this comic is subtitled "If you're not listening to Say Anything, I don't know what you're doing with your life."

also, did you guys read this new interview with Max Bemis of Say Anything that AltPress did? so great! i'm definitely pumped about their new album.

based on a true story, inspired by "I Just Can't Wait to be King" from The Lion King. also, if you are able, i definitely recommend that you see it in 3d in the theatre. i think it's in theatres for another week and a half-ish.

as it turns out, today is my birthday! woo! also, Jimmy Fallon's birthday is in just a couple days!

also, i really like how Elliott's scheming face turned out here, it worked out just the way i wanted. pretty pumped about it.

bah, seriously, it's so weird being sorted into Gryffindor, i'm completely bewildered. i love Gryffindor, for sure, and my favourite character in all of HP (Neville Longbottom) is a Gryffindor, but i'm just pretty sure that i don't have the bravery that is so exemplary, so expected of Gryffindors, and everything Hufflepuff is everything i want. i dunno, it's weird.

Dear Jimmy,
I'm so excited for your 500th show tonite! I look forward to Late Night every nite it's on, and you've really put together a great show. It's so great you're reaching 500 episodes! I myself am getting kind of close to 300 posts on this webcomic, and I hope I make it to as many episodes as you've got! Please keep it up, the show's seriously fantastic! Thanks for all the laughs thus far, and I'm way excited for more in the future!

p.s.: I think it's hilarious that two nites in a row your guests have commented on your old hair styles! So funny!

seriously, if you get a refill of your popcorn on your way out at the Reel Theatre here in Pocatello, ID, they'll cover it with plastic wrap so you don't lose any. it's great.

also, until the end of September, the Pocatello Reel Theatre (and possibly other Reel Theatres? i'm not sure) is doing Customer Appreciation Days, so all tickets are only $1.50, and there's great deals on popcorn and sodas. if you're in town, i definitely recommend going and supporting them, seeing good movies, and getting great deals at the cinema.

also, this is the last of my "going to the movies" story arc, so we'll be moving on to other stuff on thursday!

#273

again, dedicated to Spencer Lewis. and we're almost through with the movie theatre arc! i hope you've enjoyed it!

#272

Aug 30, 2011

this comic is dedicated to Spencer Lewis, who has been known in the past to bring boxes of Honey Buns into movie theatres.

also, seriously, i can't stand it when people bring outside food and drink into movie theatres. sometimes, when the outside food is strange enough (honey buns, a tub of ice cream, or almond soy milk, for example), it can make for a good story, but i just think it's really mean to the business, especially if it's a locally-owned business, as is the Reel Theatre that i mentioned a couple of posts ago.

seriously, i draw cars all the time now, it seems. ridiculous.

this comic is subtitled, "in which i discuss the necessity of buckling up while in a car"

#269

Aug 23, 2011

and so starts the "movie theatre" story arc, also known as "Pete systematically goes through all of his moral opinions."

well, not really, but seriously, i was drawing these comics last nite, and i realised that throughout the next few, i discuss many of my moral ideas, including supporting local businesses, like The Reel Theatre, when able. it's like this story arc is just a big soapbox for me, i guess? i dunno, it was accidental.

in case you're wondering, the song being referenced is "I was Unconscious, It was a Dream" from Slow Club's album Yeah, So. and if you're wondering about Bayleefs, here's a picture:

seriously, everytime i listen to that song, there's this brief moment where i get distracted from the completely wonderful music and think of Kenny from the Pokemon Podcast, It's Super Effective!

anyways, this is number 267

Aug 15, 2011

i haven't actually done this yet, but i almost have. also i'm pretty afraid that i'm gonna do it one morning when my boss calls me in for work, and he'll be like, "um, no, i'm at the thunderbird motel."

#266

Aug 11, 2011

true story, i was at Walmart a couple weeks ago, and "Kiss from a Rose" came on the store radio, and i definitely sang along out loud for a few lines before realising what i was doing. no one was in the same aisle as me when it happened, but still.

also, seriously, that song is great.

i've kind of been playing Shadow of the Colossus over the last little while, but it's pretty hard and i'm not so good at it, so i've been stuck on this one colossus, but it's definitely an incredibly fun and beautiful game, for sure. i definitely recommend it.

and seriously, that one flying one (i think it was colossus number 5) was like my favourite fictional creature i've ever seen.

Dear Jimmy,
I honestly think that your Ben and Jerry's ice cream flavour might be my most favourite flavour of ice cream. I really like to buy the little tubs of it and eat some while watching your show, and when I do that on the same day that you happen to be ordering a banana split from Chris Kattan on Jacob's Patience, it just feels like I'm right there in the show. So great.

the last of my Harry and the Potters comics. this one goes out to Sam (who drove me and Matt to the show) and Sharann (who we met in line, but who i'd kind of met on facebook beforehand).

seriously, make sure to check out Harry and the Potters at their site (http://harryandthepotters.com/), because they're super great.

Jul 28, 2011

it's hard to find anything more fantastic than an entire audience, singing along fervently with every word at a concert, but when the band playing at said concert is Harry and the Potters, and the song that's being sung along to is about sticking together and fighting for love and hope and what we believe in, it's seriously as fantastic as things can get.

they've only got a couple more shows on their tour, in Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, and New York, so if you're in one of those areas, be sure to check them out! plus, they've got awesome friends playing with them at these shows, like Draco and the Malfoys, MC Kreacher, Leema Mountain, and Uncle Monsterface! you can get all the details for their tour at their site, http://harryandthepotters.com/.

this is number 261!
